The Open Innovation Model
This paper is part of a series of analyses commissioned by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) IP Commission to raise awareness about how IP rights work in practice. The co-authors explain how, due to rising technology complexity and globally distributed R&D, partnership is increasingly an essential feature of innovation. They describe how IP rights support so-called “open innovation” involving technology and knowledge-sharing.

Innovation and Intellectual Property in Developing Countries
This sidebar in the Atlantic Council’s report The Global Innovation Sweepstakes explains that, for countries at all levels of economic development, IP systems can support R&D and tech transfer across sectors, along with the commercialization of new solutions, collaborative ventures including contract manufacturing, and local companies’movement up the value chain over time.

The Role of Technology and Innovation in COVID-19 Vaccines and Therapeutics Development Panel
Innovation Insights’ Jennifer Brant participated in this online conference hosted by CSIS, during which she presented the report Unprecedented (co-authored with Prof. Mark Schultz). Unprecedented explains the critical role that IP protection played during the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the development and commercialization of technologies that proved essential to the pandemic response both before and during the crisis. The report drew on interviews with senior leaders in the companies that led the innovation response to the pandemic.
